Meet Austin Wright, River’s Edge Golf Pro

Austin Wright with his wife Laura and dog Luna.

Austin began playing golf at the age of 4, going out in the yard hitting balls with his dad while he practiced his own game. Austin was a multi-sport athlete through middle school playing baseball, basketball, and golf, being the first person in Greenup County High School’s history to qualify for the regionals at the age of 12 while still in middle school.

Golf and baseball were always the staples in Austin’s life, playing in 3 Kentucky State Tournaments, while also playing on junior golf tours, winning several times on the Kentucky Junior Pepsi Tour. Out of High School, Austin then played 2 years of golf and baseball in college at Shawnee State University and Rio Grande University. After college, Austin took a job in corporate America before turning to the PGA in 2015, taking the assistant golf profession position at Hickory Stick Golf Club in Greenwood, and then moving to Hillcrest Golf and country Club in Batesville in 2016.

Austin puts a huge emphasis on enjoying the game of golf, constantly looking for new ways to make the game easier through teaching, or by creating new formats to play. Junior golf is also near and dear to Austin’s heart, he began coaching his High School team in 2010 and has been teaching lessons ever since, including several PGA Jr. League teams, and some of the largest Junior Camps in Indianapolis. Austin will also be putting his own spin on the Pro-Shop, bringing in the best equipment from the best brands in the game of golf and the newest styles to keep everyone looking their best at the most reasonable prices in the state.

Austin currently lives in Greenwood with his wife, Laura and their dog Luna.
